New Post in the Armory

June 29, 2011

Don’t be caught off guard, go to the Armory and then spread this article far and wide, a BATF whitewash will be unveiled tomorrow!

As more information surfaces about the absolute idiocy involved with Operation
Fast and Furious, ATF whistleblowers are being told to shut their mouths and
warned that if they talk, they may lose their job. According to Vince Cefalu,
now a former ATF agent, he was fired after coming forward with information
about the lethal Obama Justice Department Operation Fast and Furious and for cooperating
with the House Oversight Committee in Congressman Issa’s investigation of the
operation and DOJ. Cefalu came forward with information about the government
allowing high powered weapons to flow into the hands of Mexican drug cartels
and across the border into Mexico in December before the story about Fast and
Furious broke. Cefalu worked for the bureau for 24 years before being forced to
turn in his badge and gun.

ATF has a history of retaliation against agents who don’t fall in line with
orders, even when those orders break the law or are unethical. Last week,
Congressman Darrell Issa warned ATF and Justice Department officials against
retaliation toward agents who come forward with valuable information about
corruption within the system. Issa sent a letter expressing his concern to ATF
Deputy Director William J. Hoover:

I write to request your assurance that the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) will not retaliate against
witnesses who have provided information to this Committee. I make this request
in light of the fact that on June 15, 2011, in a hearing before the Committee
entitled “operation Fast and Furious: Reckless Decisions, Tragic
Outcomes,” three veteran ATF special agents gave testimony highly critical
of the ATF. They should not face reprisals of any kind for their testimony. No
other ATF employees who cooperate with Congress should face retaliation either.
The Committee relies on whistleblowers to conduct unvarnished and thorough
oversight. Witnesses who choose to cooperate with the Committee must be
confident that they can provide information without fear of punishment.

From the Patriot Post

“Acting ATF
director Kenneth Melson is apparently ready to take the fall for what may be
the most morally repulsive scandal to befall the Obama administration so far.
Our neighbor Mexico lies bleeding from a long, vicious war to fight seven major
drug cartels at once. Some 38,000 have been left dead since 2006. Amid all
this, U.S. ATF agents had orders from on high to supply U.S. weapons to cartel
middlemen buying them on U.S. soil for the odd purpose of ‘tracing’ them. The
news that Melson is resigning seems to be a bid by the Obama administration to
paint this as simply an example of Keystone Kop-style bungling being corrected.
But many things suggest the operation may have been done for political
purposes, and not merely stupidity. The idea behind ‘Operation Fast and
Furious’ was to let gun dealers sell weapons to cartel middlemen, who would
then ship them to criminal gangs in Mexico, and damn the consequences. …
There was no effort to trace the weapons even after letting them get out. If
the weapons weren’t traced, why was this operation sanctioned? … [Barack
Obama … wanted to reinstate an assault-weapon ban in 2008, but said he did
not have the political capital to do it. Bob Owens, writing for Pajamas Media,
noted that the administration seemed to want to whip up a crisis requiring a
crackdown on guns in the U.S. It gets worse. President Obama has long wanted
gun-control-oriented ATF agent Andrew Traver to head the agency. Now, with
Melson rumored to be ready to quit this week, he may get his way and benefit.
There are real questions that must be answered about who knew about this, and
when. An American lies murdered for what may be political aims. He has a right
to justice — as high up as it goes.” —Investor’s

China Credit
Rating Agency Says U.S. Is Defaulting

While the Barack Obama Administration has attempted to paint a rosy picture of the economy, one of America’s largest creditors is not so sure that the United States will be able to pay its debts.  At
least one credit rating agency in China, which holds $1.1 trillion in U.S. Treasury bonds, says that America is defaulting on its loans.  “In our opinion, the United States has already been defaulting,” Guan Jianzhong,  the president of Dagong Global Credit Rating Co. Ltd., said, reports AFP.  Guan’s company is the only credit agency in China that gives sovereign ratings. The official also said that the U.S. was defaulting because it allowed its currency to slip compared to others.  Fox News reports that the top three credit agencies are warning that America’s credit rating might slip. According to the news source, Fitch has warned that America could lose its sterling rating if it fails to deal with its long-term deficits.  America’s credit rating will also likely be impacted by whether Congress raises the debt ceiling by Aug. 2, which is the date lawmakers have been given by Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner. Geithner said that if no action is taken by that time, the U.S. would likely have to default on some of its obligations, according to FoxAnd I was only kidding when I said the Chinese would collect the fares on High Speed Rail. – Sundogger

See Manna in the Morning

We have no
government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled
by morality and religion,” wrote John Adams.  “Our Constitution was made
only for a moral and religious people.  It is wholly inadequate to the
government of any other.”

It’s not hard to appreciate the wisdom of Adams in practical terms.  A
profoundly immoral people
would be an unruly mob.  Huge amounts of compulsive, often violent, force
would be needed to maintain the most basic order.

The American Constitution is among the highest achievements of human
enlightenment.  It is not a cage designed to hold a nation of brutal
savages.  If we would live as free people, governed with the minimum
possible degree of compulsion, we must strive to deal with each other in a
moral way, because we have to trust
each other.

How can a moral people suffer the presence of deeply immoral leaders?

Discussion of these matters is often dismissed as the stuffy chattering of
moralistic busybodies, but it’s actually a question of cold logic.  We
live beneath a gigantic government, so huge that it consumes or controls more
than half of what America produces.  Much of this government is justified
in explicitly moral terms.  We are always being lectured that everything
from government-run health care, to vast subsidies for “alternative energy,” is
the “right” or moral thing to do.

That’s one of the reasons it matters when someone like Rep. Anthony Weiner of
New York is revealed to be utterly reprehensible – a compulsive liar who
betrayed the trust of his wife, beginning not more than a month after they were
married, and tried to ruin those who exposed him.

Even by the Left’s standards of collective ethics and submission to the State,
it makes no sense to expect proper moral engineering from deeply immoral
people.  His sins of betrayal, deception, and negligence are the exact
opposite of everything liberals expect us to believe
about the demigods
they would empower to manage our lives.
